We are Essential to care ™
Globally, we are approximately 50,000 employees striving each day to make healthcare more efficient, providers more effective and patients as healthy as possible.
Cardinal Health EMEA
In EMEA, our recent acquisition of the Medtronic Patient Recovery business increases both our geographic reach and the support we can give healthcare providers. With time, our global efficiencies and intelligence will help us to deliver an increasingly greater depth of experience and benefit for patients in EMEA.
The Patient Recovery acquisition
In July 2017, Cardinal Health finalised the deal to acquire the Medtronic Patient Recovery business for $6.1 billion in cash, the largest acquisition in the history of the company . To ensure a smooth transition of the business, Medtronic has continued under a transition service agreement (TSA), to provide back-office support to Cardinal Health for the products including order management and fulfilment, accounts payable and receivable, service and repair, and customer service.
On July 29, 2017 Cardinal Health welcomed over 10,000 Medtronic colleagues across the globe into our business. In EMEA, around 650 new employees joined the company based in 12 different countries – primarily in manufacturing (in Ireland and Germany) and sales. When we exit our TSA in EMEA we will add a number of other employees in the Nordics and Emerging Markets to support our business into the future.
United States, Canada, Latin America and the Global Supply Chain exited their TSAs on July 27.
On October 26, 2018, we will exit the TSA for Patient Recovery customers in EMEA. Cardinal Health will assume full responsibility for all services the following day, October 27, 2018.
Patient Recovery products
The rationale behind the acquisition was simple. It helps Cardinal Health to expand both our geographical reach and portfolio to meet a wider range of healthcare needs. Product offerings moving to Cardinal Health include:
- Enteral feeding
- Operating Room
- Needles & syringes
- Wound care
- Chart paper
- Collection system offerings.
A full list of Patient Recovery products and product codes now owned by Cardinal Health are available here.
The Patient Recovery products will be managed by the Medical Solutions business which also includes Cardinal Health branded surgical gloves, fluid management and wound drains. The Cordis™ business unit (acquired in 2015) sells coronary and peripheral intervention products. In addition, Cardinal Health also offers a unique range of inventory management solutions, under CIMS.™
